Google has already launched the Nexus One, its smartphone, a device thought to compete directly with the iPhone.
The Nexus One, which has not yet reached the Spanish market, has many Internet services. We have analyzed it and give it, in the first place, its results.
Nexus One, Google’s long-awaited smartphone, is now available in some countries. We will have to wait for it to arrive in Spain, but now electronicsencyclopedia will analyze it to know what this new phone offers.
Nexus One: on the outside, no surprises…
The appearance of the Nexus One is not new.Its image is similar to other smartphones, with a large touch screen and without just physical buttons.
Its LED screen is somewhat larger than the iPhone, although it is not multi-touch (so it is not possible to zoom by simply moving two fingers, as in the Apple smartphone).
The Nexus One features a 5 Mp camera with flash.
A novelty is the system that reduces ambient noise: a microphone records the noise, and eliminates it in the course of the conversation, to avoid interference.
… but with many possibilities
The Nexus One, whose functionality is based on the Android operating system, developed by Google, offers many multimedia possibilities.
Save photos online via Picasa.
With the Nexus it is possible to connect to Facebook or Twitter.
The device is always connected to the Gmail account, which allows the exchange of emails.
It also has the main applications of Google. On the other hand, Google has announced that in the coming months will increase the supply of available applications.
All these services obviously require an almost permanent mobile internet connection, 3G or Wifi: it is important to choose a good rate, to avoid surprises.
Where can I buy it?
At the moment, the Nexus One has only been released in some countries. In the United States, United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong its free price is 529 dollars, and with the operator T-Mobile, 179 dollars. In the United Kingdom Google markets the free Nexus One, and it will offer with subsidy Vodafone.
The new phone can be purchased through the Google website, and is expected to start selling in the rest of Europe within a few months.
At the moment, there is no news that in Spain there will be an exclusive operator of the Nexus One, although it enters as far as possible that Vodafone intends to market it, as it will do in the United Kingdom, and that Movistar, dominant operator, also try Get the exclusive, as you already did with the iPhone.
We analyzed the Nexus One
The Nexus One is not the first smartphone that works with Android technology Google: HTC Magic and HTC Hero already did.In fact, The Nexus One is made by HTC.But the difference in this case is that Google sells the device directly, so it is mainly a matter of marketing.
We have analyzed this new smartphoen, and these are its results for the different uses:
The Nexus One is a rugged phone, both water and shock.
Sound quality in receiving calls in places with echo and noise is still poor, despite the system that reduces ambient noise.
The battery, of 1400mAh, allows 6 hours of conversation, 15 hours of music playback but only slightly more than 2 hours of Internet browsing.
It can also be loaded from the USB port of a computer.
As camera of photos
The Google Nexus One has a 5 megapixel camera, with autofocus and LED flash.
Due to the design, there is no direct access to the camera, either turning it on or taking a photo or saving it takes time, which makes it have poor results in ease of use.
No pictbridge available.
It stands out for the good quality of the photos, for the very good quality the screen and for its speed to transfer the same to the computer.
As a music player
Sound quality is acceptable and greatly improves (as in almost all cases) when using good quality headphones. It stands out for its ease of use so much of the navigation by the menu, adjustment of parameters or creation of playlists.
Internet and email
Nexus One has GPRS, EDGE, UMTS and HSDPA technology, allowing you to enjoy 3G and 3G + (similar to ADSL) in the coverage areas that allow it.
It has WiFi connection.
Use and handling of email is only acceptable.
As a browser
Nexus One comes with installed Google Maps Navigation: it calculates the position in which it is thanks to its integrated GPS receiver and places it in the maps that are being downloaded at any moment of Internet (so keep in mind that this costs money).Anyway you can always install an Android compatible GPS navigator.
