SIHH-novelty of Audemars Piguet: Royal Oak Concept Watch

SIHH-novelty of Audemars Piguet for 2015: the Royal Oak concept watch.

A new sound experience promises the Swiss manufacturer Audemars Piguet with the Royal Oak concept. The clock with for many years of developed Minutenrepitition for the first time at the Geneva Watch fair 2015 presented.

Usual futuristic feels the new Royal Oak by Audemars Piguet. The typical features of the clock line – the octagonal bezel with eight hexagonal screws – are of course on board. But in terms of sound, the watch differs from all previously existed before.

Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Concept

At the Geneva Watch fair 2015 first presented Royal Oak concept has a particularly full-sounding Minutenrepitition as a special feature. This complication was earlier, when electric light was still unused, to display the time in the dark tones. Hours, quarters and minutes are taken in different pitches. Today the elaborately-dial function is actually obsolete – but some die-hard Watch fans appreciate the Minutenrepitition today.

Melodious Minutenrepition

Highest precision watchmaking in the construction and the installation of a Minutenrepitition, particularly in a relatively small enclosure we need a wristwatch. The complication consists of many small parts, just installation capable of watchmaking with decades of experience. A further challenge is to make possible a melodious sound. A watch case offers only a small resonant body and the water resistance of the body of the Royal Oak also dampen the sound.

Experts Tinkered on the Perfect Sound

The Swiss watchmaker Audemars Piguet was working for eight years in an acoustic study on the perfect sound. Watchmakers, scientists, craftsmen and technicians came together. A graduate of the College of music of Geneva contributed his knowledge to the perception of sound, a stringed instrument maker has designed the Interior of the sound body.

Result of the collaboration is the Royal Oak concept watch that has a Minutenrepitition, which provides a never before attained sound volume. The sound of the new watch Audemars Piguet describes as “not only discreet for its carrier: rather, the unique sound is an experience that is worth to share it”. But an owner will not be: the clock is a prototype of unmarketable. At the booth of Audemars Piguet on the SIHH 2015 Geneva Watch fans will be however to demonstrate the sound.
