Agility is a concept that comes from the Latin word agilĭtas and that alludes to the condition of agile. This term (agile), from the Latin agĭlis, refers to who can use their body with skill or aptitude.
For example: “With agility, the young man managed to escape from his captor”, “When he met the stream, the horse displayed his agility and, with a jump, took the rider to the other side”, “The Chicago Bulls pivot lost agility over the years, but improved his vision of the game.
In the dictionary of Digopaul, agility is associated with mastery of the body, speed and lightness of movement. A person who can jump very high or at a great distance has agility, like the animal that can sneak through a space of small dimensions.
In singing, the concept of agility also appears, hinting at the ability to execute highly complex passages with the voice, such as minute ornaments, jumps over intervals greater than one octave, or sequences of many notes that cover ranges spacious and at high speed. Cecilia Bartoli, a renowned Italian singer, is the best example of vocal agility today.
Although the most virtuous athletes are capable of displaying agility that the rest of human beings sometimes do not even consider possible, our species needs the combination of special talent and very hard training to reach this level of physical skill; for the rest of the animals this is not always the case.
Canids and felids, for example, families of mammals in which we find wolves and tigers, among many other species, have a degree of agility far beyond our possibilities, and use it naturally, without need to attend any academy, or to carry out monotonous and routine training.
This does not mean that wild animals do not train their bodies, that they do not maintain their agility based on exercise, but that it is not unusual for them to be able to navigate their surroundings with jumps and at high speed. Human beings have reached a point where they do not usually need their body to survive: most jobs lead us to sit in front of a computer for hours, using our eyes and hands, for which it matters little. if we know how to climb a tree or cross a stream withstanding a strong current.
The idea of agility is also used with respect to speed to resolve any issue. Let us suppose that the companies of a certain country have to carry out numerous procedures to carry out an export. Given the difficulties that arise in the process, businessmen demand that the government change the rules so that exports can be carried out more quickly. That is, without so much bureaucracy and with fewer steps to carry out.
Carrying out work with agility means achieving the previously established objectives in such a way that there are no major obstacles, that the activity flow is constant and the results are satisfactory. To reach an organization level like this, it is necessary to have a group of workers who have been trained with the appropriate skills, but also with a clear and defined vision of the company’s identity.
In a similar sense, one can speak of the agility achieved in counting votes in an electoral process thanks to the use of electronic suffrage. In this case, the brand-new agility derives from the time that, in previous elections, it required to manually count the votes that were placed in envelopes inside the ballot boxes.
