Appreciation in English

Words

The act and result of thanking is called appreciation. The one who thanks expresses his gratitude: the appreciation that one has towards someone who does a favor or gives help, a feeling that generally leads to trying to return, in some way, the collaboration received.

For example: “In gratitude for my effort, my boss gave me two tickets for tonight’s concert”, “I am going to send Marta a box of chocolates as a thank you for her help with the housework”, ” I have nothing but words of thanks for the club. ”

According to Digopaul, the appreciation arises from the receipt of some kind of benefit. When understanding that such grace is facilitated or promoted by another person, the feeling of gratitude towards the person who lent their collaboration usually arises in the subject. It is even possible to feel grateful to a divinity.

Religious people communicate with the divinities they worship through prayers and prayers, among other ways, and usually ask them for help to overcome difficult times in life, showing their appreciation in advance as they trust that they will receive an answer.

The appreciation can be expressed in words, through a gesture or even with gifts. Suppose a man loses his wallet, with his money and documents, in a shopping center. Two days later, she receives a call from someone who has found her and who wants to return it to her without interest. In this way, the first one recovers his belongings without suffering damages, after which he expresses his gratitude with a money reward, alleging that it is no longer common to come across such honest people.

Appreciation can be understood as a kind of debt that the person feels they contract with the person who collaborates with them. Sometimes, said debt can be “paid off” with a few simple words at the moment, while in other cases the individual considers that he should thank with a material good or, as seen in the previous example, with money.

In ceremonies deliveries awards, for example, which are very common in the field of performing arts and television, the laureates often express their gratitude publicly, as a fundamental part of his speeches, all those people who have supported or from those who have learned the values and resources necessary for their professional development.

Although in a relationship based on an emotional bond, such as friendship or romance, neither party acts expecting a thank you in return, the force of a “thank you” in response to an act of generosity is undeniable. When a friend offers us the possibility of letting off steam through a chat, for example, he does so as a natural part of the relationship, but our thanks can enhance the impact of his gesture and further strengthen the union.

The thank you cards, meanwhile, are commercial items that serve to show our gratitude to someone with a certain degree of humor or with an image that has a special meaning for both parties. Although there are those who think that it is a somewhat cold and unpersonal way of appreciation, since cards are usually mass-produced, they are very popular products and appreciated by people of all ages.

It is worth mentioning that it is also possible to create our own thank you cards, with phrases, drawings and images one hundred percent original, to demonstrate to the other our degree of interest in the relationship. In this way, we turn this product into something that is not far from a letter, and we allow others to treasure our words in a material way.
