Gartner: 96.8 Percent of Smartphones Sold in Q2 Are Android or iOS

Slow as hasn’t happened since 2013 smartphone sales worldwide, to support the thesis also the latest estimates published by Gartner in the end of the second quarter of the year. Overall were apparently sold nearly 330 million smartphones, an increase of only 13.5% compared to last year, when he had not gone over 290 million units. More optimistic than those figures emerged a few days ago by the GfK.

The growth would boost mainly by good demand for low cost 3 g and 4 g models in emerging countries, between areas with higher rate we have the Asia Pacific (excluding China), Eastern Europe, Middle East and Africa. China instead in trouble, as pointed out by now, with a decline of 4 percent of the largest mobile market on the planet (almost one third of the total).

Despite the sales of two Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge have not convinced that much, Samsungremains leader with the 21.9% audience share and 72 million units sold, the 5.3% less than last year (76 m). But the distance with Apple has actually shortened, the House of Cupertino is undergoing a new Golden moment, in Q2, according to Gartner ben 48 million iPhones sold (+36%) and market share climbs up to 14.6%. Third Huawei, in this first half of the year the Chinese House has grown tremendously (+ 46.3%) by removing the competition, with 25.8 million devices sold and share equal to 7.8%.

Off the Top 5 Lenovo and fourth and fifth respectively with Xiaomi16.4 and 16 million smartphones sold during the period considered and different trends: first downhill since last year with the 5% audience share, the second is instead increasing volumes and has already arrived to 4.9%.

The race between operating systems and increasingly in two if we speak on a global scale, Windows Phone is unable to assert itself in the most important markets and is far from double digits recorded in Italy and other European countries, only 2.5% of total shares. The rest is almost exclusively destined to the two main platform, Android and iOS, 14.6 percent and 82.2 respectively and able to get up to 96.8% if combined.

Now almost non existent voice BlackBerry with only 1.1 million devices sold and a market share of 0.3%, downhill continues for years.

Also interesting is the last table developed by Gartner that collects all sales of mobile phones, so smartphones and feature phones. Without many surprises are also in this case Samsungtop with 88.7 million units and the 19.9% share, Apple again second given the copious iPhone sales that are valid in this ranking the 10.8% (rising) and Microsoft, owner of Nokia Mobile and third with 27 million phones in Q2 (6.2% of shares).

The longer the list of producers involved in this case. In fourth position we Huawei (5.9%) with an almost unchanged 26.7 million device sold, well, to follow instead LG (4%) with 17 million unit, Lenovo (3.7%) with 16.6 million, 3.6%) with 16 Xiaomi (mln, TLC (3.5%) with 15.7 million and Micromax ($ 2.2) with 9.8 million phones.

Altogether were marketed 445.7 million mobile phones in Q2, with smartphone by far the most abundant in the industry. Sadly absent from the charts Sony and HTC, two manufacturers that in spite of the excellent devices encounter a lot of difficulties to emerge with tantalizing numbers.
