The Astigmatism Has No Cure? Learn How You Can Fix This Problem

Astigmatism is among the vision problems, more frequent, and could be associated with other errors refractive, or eye diseases. But it will be that the astigmatism has no cure?

About the Astigmatism

The astigmatism is a common type of error refractive. It is a condition in which the eye does not focus evenly. But does astigmatism have cure? The answer is in the negative, but treatment alternatives are very effective to correct the error refractive on the cornea, giving patients a better visual acuity.

THE ASTIGMATISM HAS NO CURE? HOW IS IT CORRECTED?

With normal vision, the image is focused on the retina and a single point of focus. The retina has an important role in vision, since it is this that receives the images and transmits these to the brain through the optic nerve.

In an eye with astigmatism, objects are focused at more than one point, distorting in this way the vision, that is, the images are distorted as they pass through the cornea and, as such, appear blurry when projected on the retina. Consequently in the vision with astigmatism, the images transmitted to the brain are blurred or distorted causing blurred vision.

The astigmatism has no cure but can be corrected with glasses, contact lenses or surgery. Individual lifestyles affect the way astigmatism is treated:

  • The glasses are the simplest and most secure way to correct the astigmatism.
  • The contact lenses work by becoming the first surface refractive to light rays that enter the eye, causing a refractive or focusing more accurate. In many cases, contact lenses provide a clearer vision, a wider field of view and greater comfort. Is a safe and effective if installed and used correctly. However, contact lenses are not suitable for all cases.

SYMPTOMS OF ASTIGMATISM

Astigmatism usually causes vision to be blurred or distorted to some degree at all distances.

The symptoms of astigmatism not corrected are eye strain and headaches, especially after reading or other visual tasks extended.

This disease is commonly caused by a cornea of irregular shape. Instead of the cornea having a symmetrically round (like a baseball), it is moulded with a meridian significantly more curved than the meridian perpendicular to it.

TEST ASTIGMATISM

Astigmatism is detected during a routine examination with the same instruments and techniques used for the detection of myopia and hyperopia. To do this, there are automated instruments that provide a preliminary test faster for the detection of eye problems.

TYPES OF ASTIGMATISM

There are two main types of astigmatism:

1. ASTIGMATISM MIÓPICO

Occurs when the two errors refractive are simultaneously (astigmatism and myopia). Astigmatism with myopia is an eye problem quite often.

This anomaly of vision is common in children and can have a negative impact on school success, because that causes decreased vision.

2. ASTIGMATISM HIPERMETRÓPICO

Astigmatism and farsightedness together. It is a visual problem frequent in both sexes.

When present in children can lead to major loss of vision irreversibly (amblyopia) if it is not corrected in a timely manner, prior to 6 years of life.

It can also be classified as regular or irregular. On a regular basis, the principal meridians are perpendicular to each other. In irregular, the principal meridians are not perpendicular. Most of it is regular, which gives the front surface of the eye an oval shape.

Astigmatism irregular can be a result of an eye injury that caused scarring on the cornea or by a disease that causes a thinning gradual of the cornea.
